The reason people think car dealerships rip you off is because it's the only business where you can walk in and say "I like the price, I'm ready to buy, I can pay cash right now" and then have the dealership finance guy nickel and dime you to try to extract more money after making you wait around for 4 hours

4:28 Of course, Tyler: Dealerships have made a point of NOT having standardized markups and literally try to make as much profit of each customer as possible including selling customers overpriced junk, extended warranties that don't cover much, and fraudulent markups for "undercoating" or "paint protection" or "documentation". So of course customers do not trust them and go into the negotiation assuming the worst of the dealer. If dealers had standardized markups for their products like other industries, then there would be no negotiation or distrust.

Now I have a house and looking to buy my first car.. a year ago I had maybe 1k to my name. And that wouldn't had happened would if covid never happened and I never lost my job a year ago. Crazy

The character is very relatable if you are a car enthusiast, cause he does things that we wish we could do, or maybe we do in a small scale. BTW, a smart person can recognize when to cut the losses and also taking in consideration when people share their experience.

The problem is, people don’t see any value in what a car salesman does. A carpenter creates things it would take a long time to learn. A garbage man does a job you don’t want to do . A doctor treats illness/injury. What value does a salesman bring? Not ALL, but most of the time it is a sleazy game of lies.
